THE COLLECTOR: BEGINNINGS

My name is Charlie.  Before May of 2011, I collected posters in solitude....

I was always a movie nut.  I watched movies and shows until bedtime for the most part of my adolescent life.  My senior paper (for English) was on movie special effects.  The paper concentrated mainly on Industrial Light and Magic, blue screen and model work.  I was in love with film making and the "magic" behind it.  However, in a weird twist of fate, this had no effect on the profession I chose.  Movies were always the escape from the, somewhat, troubled life of a teenager.   I was also into comics, Wolverine being my favorite.  Ironically, I don't own a single X-Men poster...  Now, what does this have to do with posters, you may ask?  Well, it was the "calm before the storm" for development of a 15 year temporary insanity of collecting.

My dad owned a comic book and sports card shop in the early 90s, during the sports card "bubble".  I was quite expected to collect cards and comics, and eventually coins.  All of which I enjoyed immensely, but none developed through a process of self analysis and true desire.  Yeah, Wolverine was cool and he sliced people up, but did I really care?  I had everyone else's hobbies, but, in reality, they were never passions underlying them.  I collected for value or perhaps a return on investment.  I never bought a baseball card or comic, simply, because I had to have it.  I actually, out of perhaps 1000 comics (somewhere stored in my grannies garage), have only read a handful of them: The Spawn Series and the Wolverine Series through about issue 60.  Again you are asking, "What the hell does this have to do with movie poster collecting?" Essentially, I was an avid collector, but wasn't really collecting anything... anything that had meaning, other than potential monetary return.
